Coming together…for fun
It’s all about coming together as a community. That’s one of the things that Bergenfield’s first Family Fun Day accomplished.
Last week’s inaugural borough party joined the ranks of extra special activities — like Dumont’s popular Dumont Day celebration and New Milford’s annual Night Out Against Crime — that we think should become a regular part of our respective borough calendars.
For a while, it looked as though Family Fun Day at Veterans Memorial Park would not even get under way. Downpours in the early afternoon of Sunday, June 22 threatened the entire day’s outdoor activities. But as intensive as the rain was, so strongly and quickly did the skies clear and the sun come out that the rest of the day — culminating with a beautiful fireworks display — was sure to be perfect.
These municipal outings, we think, say a lot about our local leaders’ efforts to make our lives just a little bit better. Differences can be put aside, even if only for a few hours, as we meet and greet neighbors we know well and others we will get to know better.
Family Fun Day, Dumont Day and the Night Out Against Crime accomplish a lot. And the civic-minded men and women volunteers who work on such projects, along with the borough employees and agencies lending their support, deserve a lot of credit.
We are fortunate to have them among us.
