N.M. library to show ‘Murder at Vicarage’

"Murder at the Vicarage," a film based on Agatha Christie’s famous mystery, will be shown at the noon Thursday, July 3 at the New Milford Public Library.

The 100-minute film stars Joan Hickson as prim and popular Jane Marple, Christie’s most well-known character.

Mystery fans adore Miss Marple for the razor-sharp mind, intuitive understanding of criminal behavior and her trademark knitting needles.

Set in the sleepy little village of St. Mary Mead, Miss Marple overhears the mild-mannered Rev. Clement swearing in anger about the unpopular Colonel Protheroe.

Throughout the day, she learns that certain other villagers have reason to hate the colonel, so when his body is found the next day, there is no shortage of suspects.

To complicate matters, all involved have alibis. It takes all of Miss Marple’s powers to separate the killer from pretenders.

The July 3 film showing is free and open to those 18 years and older.

Viewers may bring lunch; coffee and iced tea will be served.

A list of all the July mystery movies is available from the library.

For more information, call the library at 201-262-1221 or Mary Joyce Doyle at 201-262-5746.
