‘Pillow Talk’ to be shown at Bergenfield library
"Pillow Talk," a romantic comedy starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day, will be shown 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8 at the Bergenfield Library.
Coffee and refreshments will be available at 10:15 a.m., courtesy of the Friends of the Library.
The premise for the 102-minute movie, released in 1959, is the old-fashioned party telephone line.
Brad Allen (Rock Hudson) monopolizes the line, and Jan Morrow (Doris Day) lets him know she finds him and his constant womanizing annoying.
They have never met, but they soon hate each other until he catches a glimpse of her by accident and recognizes the voice.
Brad attempts to woo Jan using the fake persona of a Southern gentleman; he nearly succeeds.
But when the Doris Day character discovers that she has been deceived by none other than her former nemesis, fireworks erupt -- to the delight of film viewers.
Critics agree that Rock Hudson showed a real flair for comedy in the film, and established a benchmark for future romantic comedies.
Doris Day was nominated for an Oscar as Best Screen Actress, and Tony Randall for Best Supporting Actor.
Tuesday programs are free and open to the public.
