Owens Middle School graduates 165
David E. Owens Middle School in New Milford conducted graduation exercises on Thursday, June 19, for the 165 members of the class of 2008.
The ceremony opened with the singing of the national anthem by Alyssa Balderama, Sarde Gumalo, Edwina Koch and Jennilyn Kate Robles. The promotion exercises were highlighted with speeches by Student Council President Royce-Vincent Rebustillo and Principal Dr. Dennis J. McDonald.
Thirteen eighth-grade students were awarded the President’s Award for Academic Excellence, a national award designed to recognize and reward students who have achieved academic excellence. The award was presented to Rebecca Atencio, Matthew Bachmann, Christine Beltran, Cassandra Calle, Disha Dass, Sarde Gumalo, Zachary Miletta, Jennilyn Kate Robles, Rendell Tababan, Takakuni Takezawa, Shannon Tello, Brian Wan and Anthony Whittaker.
Four eighth-grade students were awarded the President’s Award for Educational Improvement. The award was presented to Cherilyn Conner, Adriana Gjidoda, Vanessa Pichardo and Christopher Schuh.
The David E. Owens PTO Award for Outstanding Scholarship, Service, Character and Leadership was presented to Brian Wan and Cassandra Calle.
The Vivian E. Levi Award for character and citizenship was presented to Jennilyn Kate Robles.
