Maurice R. De Canio

BERGENFIELD — Maurice R. De Canio, 66, of Bergenfield died June 13.

Born in Teaneck, he was an online technician for Precious Accent, Englewood.

A nationally ranked Scrabble player, Mr. DeCanio was president of the Teaneck Scrabble Club.

Predeceased by a sister, Anne Mahaffey, he is survived by his wife, Joyce DeCanio (nee Amelung); his daughter, Lauren and her husband Gregory Marco; and a grandson, Anthony Marco.

There was a funeral service at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, on Tuesday, June 17. Cremation was private.

 Francesco Gallo

BERGENFIELD — Francesco Gallo, 45, of Bergenfield died June 15.

He was born in Solerno, Sicilia, Italy, and was a chef at Cucina Calandras Restaurant in Fairfield.

Mr. Gallo was survived by his wife,  Jacqueline M. Gallo (nee Calhoun); his son,  Angelo C. Gallo; his parents, Maria and Angelo Gallo; and a brother, Carmelo Gallo.

There was a  funeral liturgy at St. John’s R.C. Church, Bergenfield, on Thursday, June 19. Interment was in Brookside Cemetery, Englewood.

James Hampton Dickens

BERGENFIELD — James Hampton Dickens, 67, of Bergenfield died June 15 at his home.

Born in Magnolia, Ark., and was a proprietor of the Old Curiosity Shop in Bergenfield until 2001.

Mr. Dickens was predeceased by his father, James Harlington Dickens, and sister, Tappy Dickens Feinberg.

Surviving are his mother, Cordelia Dickens; brother-in-law, Lawrence M. Feinberg; niece, Susanna Feinberg; and nephew, Jeffrey L. Feinberg.

There was a memorial service at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, on Sunday, June 22. Cremation was private.

Jose William Arrigoitia

PASSAIC — Jose William Arrigoitia of Passaic died June 10 after suffering with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases for several years.

He was born July 18, 1935 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and moved to Florida at the age of 18.

He met his wife and had his only son there, and then moved north to pursue his career as a sous chef.

Mr. Arrigoitia lived in New Jersey for 40 years and worked at the Ramsey and Ridgewood country clubs.

Surviving are his wife, Marchia; his son, William Steven; daughter-in-law, Felicia; and granddaughters, Olivia and Esther.

A memorial service was held June 20 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.

 Walter M. Jurgensen

VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. — Walter M. Jurgensen, 42, of Valley Cottage, N.Y., died suddenly June 17.

He was born in Teaneck on July 16, 1965, and was an ardent Yankees and Cowboys fan.

Mr. Jurgensen was predeceased by his father, Walter Jurgensen.

He was the husband of Carol Davidson for 20 years, the love of his life. He is survived by his mother, Johanna Knaack and special dad Bill Cusick, of Toms River, formerly of Dumont); his sisters, Lisa Jurgensen of Matawan and Johanna Kikkert and her husband Richard of Vernon; his in-laws, John and Joanne Davidson of Burlington, Vt.; brother-in-law, John Davidson; sisters-in-law, Cheryl McNeil and her husband Edward, Christy Peeters and her husband Bart, and Cathy Garcia and her husband Enrique; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Also surviving are his nieces, Carly McNeil, Nicole Peeters and Isabella Garcia; and nephews, Elliot and Otto Davidson, Jacob and Michael McNeil, Julian Peeters and Diego Garcia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to at C.A.T.S., a nonprofit organization for stray cats, P.O. Box 126, Tallman NY 10982.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.
