ROTARY SEEKING MEMBERS — The Bergenfield-Dumont Rotary Club is seeking new members. The organization has supported the community for more than 75 years. It has provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to local high school graduates, has sponsored more than a dozen life-saving operations for children with heart ailments, and raised funds for the families of soldiers and others in need.
The club currently meets 12:15 ti 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday at the 200 Main Street restaurant in New Milford. Starting July 7, meetings will be at Tommy Fox’s Public House in Bergenfield.
Upcoming events will be a car and truck Show at the Teaneck Armory in October, a beefsteak and tricky tray also in October, and a fruit Sale in November

MARRIAGE LICENSES — The Bergenfield Health Department will not have Monday evening hours for marriage licenses during July and August.
Monday evening hours (except holidays) will resume in September from 7 to 8 p.m. for the purpose of marriage applications only.
Year-round, marriage applications can be made 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
K of C EVENTS – Upcoming activities at St. John’s Council 1345, Knights of Columbus, serving Bergenfield and Dumont and celebrating its 100th anniversary include:
n Sat, June 28 — 100th anniversary Mass, 3 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Bergenfield. Afterward there will be a rededication ceremony and open house at the council, with complimentary food and beverages provided by the Columbiettes.
n Sunday, June 29 — Corporate Communion Mass and breakfast, 9 a.m. Mass. The last corporate Communion Mass of the Columbian year will be celebrated at St. John’s Church in Bergenfield. Assemble in the church vestibule at 8:45 a.m. for the entrance procession. After Mass, a continental breakfast will be served at the council hall.
n Monday, June 30 — Columbian Club, meeting 8 p.m.

‘BEST GARDEN OF THE YEAR’ — The Garden Club of Bergenfield is looking for Best Garden of the Year. Borough residents who want to brag about their yard, deck, patio or garden have an opportunity to enter.
Gardens will be judged in three categories: vegetable garden, flower garden and other (shrubs, containers, ponds, fruit, etc.)
Applications may be picked up from on the first floor of the Bergenfield Borough Hall or at the Bergenfield Library. Judging will take place the last week of July, weather permitting.
Only landscaping by non-professional gardeners who are Bergenfield residents will be judged. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Deadline for entry is July 10.
LIBRARY TRUSTEES MEET — Regular meetings of the Bergenfield Public Library Board of Trustees are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays: Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.
The meetings, to be held in the library at 50 W. Clinton Ave., are open to the public in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act (N.J. S.A. 10-4).
WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS — The Widows and Widowers Club of Northern Valley, a nonprofit support group, welcomes all those who are single to join in the club’s dance on the first Wednesday of each month and also on the fifth Wednesday of the months that have five Wednesdays.
On other Wednesdays, the dance is open to those who are widowed only.
The dance social takes place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, 321 S. Washington Ave. Refreshments are served and there is live music for dancing plus the opportunity to meet new friends.

DO YOU SODUKU? — The Bergenfield Library hosts a Sudoku group at 1:30 p.m. the first Friday of each month in the conference room. Novice or experienced puzzlers are welcome.
Puzzles are provided, but participants are invited to bring their own puzzles, either for help in solving them or to challenge other members of the group.

VFW AUXILIARY MEMBERSHIP DRIVE — The Ladies Auxiliary of Bergenfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 6467 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month. The auxiliary has launched a membership drive and urged anyone interested in joining to attend a meeting. For more information, call the post at 201-384-6467.
AVON-USO CARES GIFT SETS — The USO and Avon Products have joined efforts to support U.S. troops through Operation Avon-USO Cares Gift Sets. For a gift of $10, overseas military personnel will receive deodorant, hand cream, shower gel, lip balm, and sunscreen/insect repellent, and the USO will receive a $4 contribution.

VFW MEN’S AUXILIARY — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6467 is looking for members to join a men’s auxiliary. Candidates must be over 16 years old and have a relative who served in the U.S. military overseas. Those interested are invited to stop by the post at 321 S. Washington Ave. between 3 and 9 p.m. any day and pick up an application.
The post also is looking for donations of "new" items of clothing for homeless veterans. Unused cans of shaving cream and deodorant are also needed.
Items may be dropped off at the post, 321 S. Washington Ave., from noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
"Used" clothing can be donated to Vietnam Veterans of America by calling 1-800-775-8387.
The post welcomes donations of used cell phones to raise funds for troops in Iraq.
