Young leaders head for D.C.

Vernir Michael Ambartsoumean and Anthony Licata, both sixth-grade students at the Selzer Middle School in Dumont, have been nominated to attend the Junior National Young Leadeers Conference in Washington, D.C., which will take place in July.
They will be among 250 middle school students nationwide to attend the conference, a six-day program during which they will take part in educational activities and presentations, meet with elected officials and key Congressional staff members on Capitol Hill and visit historic landmarks in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pa., and Harpers Ferry. W.V.
In addition to examining notable U.S. leaders and historic figures, students study the impact of leadership during critical periods of American history, including the Civil War and reconstruction, World War II, the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement.
Ambartsoumean attends an academic enrichment program at Grant school taught by Miriam Hlwatsch. He enjoys sports and music, playing the saxaphone in Selzer School’s regular and jazz bands.
Licata , who is on the high honor roll at the school, plays clarinet in the Junior Band. His interests include video games, computers, reading and creating objects with Legos and Anime.
