Obituaries


John J. Kratz
John J. Kratz, 71, of New Milford died April 18 at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
Born in Union City, he was a bus driver for NJ Transit in Fairview, retiring in 2003.
Predeceased by his son, John McEwen, he is survived by his wife Lenora V. Kratz (nee Reamer); children, Ronald Reamer, Noralee Ford, Beverly Jannone, Denise Krause, Laura Neglia and Mallary Lombardi; grandchildren, Lea, Marissa, Krista, John, Justin, Jacob, Lauren, Amanda, Jiana and Luke; and great-grandchildren Sierra, Cade and Emilee.
There was a funeral service at Riewerts Memorial Home, Bergenfield on Tuesday, April 22 followed by entombment at Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Township of Washington.

Raymond J. Morley Sr.
DUMONT — Raymond J. Morley Sr. of Willimantic, Conn., formerly of Dumont, died April 21.
He was born and raised in Jersey City where he attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School and Dickinson High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Asian-Pacific theater and remained in the Army for 10 years, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.
After the war he, went to work for AT&T where he assisted in starting the blood bank sponsored by the IBEW Local 1470 at Western Electric in Kearny.
Mr. Morley served as the blood bank chairman for 10 years, and also served on the Telephone Pioneers executive committee with the Stanley S. Holmes Chapter 55.
While an active parishioner of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, he served various positions, including president of the Holy Name Society, president of the sports committee and coach of the parish parochial baseball team.
At the same time, he coached the Bramhall Bears, a local recreation team.
Mr. Morley was a life member of the American Legion, with 62 years of continuous membership. He served in various capacities, including post commander six times, and every post leadership position in the Legion.
He was also Boys State chairman for Junction Post 388 for the past 38 years.
He retired from AT&T after 38 years of service, and split his time between a home in Highlands and his former home in Dumont.
Mr. Morley was also a crossing guard in Dumont for 22 years.
Predeceased by his wife, Lucille (nee Goebel), he is survived by his sister, Miriam "Mim" Morley; his three sons, the Raymond Jr., Keith and Russell; and his nine grandchildren, Elyse, Jack, Aurora, Katie, Alexander, Jacob, Danielle, Michelle and Jordan.
The funeral was April 26 at Old North Reformed Church, Dumont, with interment in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.

Rene ‘Ray’ Lajoie
BERGENFIELD — Rene "Ray" V. Lajoie, 90, of Teaneck, formerly of Bergenfield, died April 16 after a short illness.
He was born and raised in Biddeford, Maine, and served in the Maine National Guard.
Mr. Lajoie was employed as a machinist by The Record and was previously employed by The New York Times.
He is survived by his three children, Linda of Bergenfield, and Paul and Janet of New Milford; and his two grandchildren; Jennifer and Matthew, both of New Milford.
The Beaugard Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, was in charge of arrangements. The funeral was are private.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations in Mr. Lajoie’s memory may be made to the Armenian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 70 Main St., Emerson NJ 07630.

Thomas P. Minehan
LITTLE FERRY — Thomas P. Minehan, 79, of Little Ferry died April 21.
Born in Englewood, he attended St. Cecelia’s School and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Before retiring, he was employed by Sier-Bath in North Bergen.
Mr. Minehan was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 641; a member of Regina Council 1688, Knights of Columbus; Rutherford; and was a fourth-degree member of Santa Maria Assembly, member of Old Guard of Rutherford.
Predeceased by a brother, James; he is survived by his sister, Theresa McCallum.
There was a funeral liturgy at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield, on Friday, April 2. Interment was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.

Bernice DeMarco
DUMONT — Bernice DeMarco (nee Bobroski) of Dumont died April 22.
She was the wife of the late Alphonse, who died in 2004, and sister of the late Irene Mishura, Evelyn Sakevich and Arthur Bobroski.
She was the mother of Nancy and her husband Steven Bellwood, Linda Moclaire and Julie DeMarco; and grandmother of Kristie and her fiance Michael, Rebecca and her husband Anthony, Stacie, Stephen and Sandra; and great-grandmother of Gavin.
A funeral Mass was offered Saturday, April 26 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont. Interment was in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dumont Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.

William E. Ramm
DUMONT — William E. Ramm, 78, of Dumont, died April 19 in Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.
He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and lived in Dumont for the last 36 years.
Mr. Ramm was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 761 in Dumont and a Masonic lodge in the Bronx.
The VFW post and Alpine Tilden Tenakill Masonic Lodge 77 both held services on April 22.
Before retiring in 1992, he was the postal superintendent for the Ridgewood Post Office for 28 years.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen McCormick Ramm; his daughter and her husband, Judiann and Gregory Rainey of Dumont; four grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Kevin and Kaitlin Rainey; and his brother, George Ramm of Blooming Grove, N.Y.
The Rev. James McKinley officiated at services on April 23 at Our Redeemer Church, Dumont. Burial was in Westwood Cemetery, Westwood.
Donations in his memory may be made to the General George W. Greene VF W Post 761, Dumont NJ 07628.

Helen M. Klepper Gordon
DUMONT — Helen M. Klepper Gordon, 93, of Dumont, died April 20 in Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck.
She was born in Jersey City and lived in Dumont for the last 64 years.
Predeceased by her husband, James T., in 2000, she is survived by her son and his wife, James and Carol Gordon of Closter; two daughters, Patricia Gordon of Suffern, N.Y., and Helen Gordon of New Milford; her sister, Cecilia Quigley; and two grandchildren, James Gordon, and Kimberly and her husband John Grasing.
A funeral Mass was offered April 23 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tenafly.

Charles A. Lippmann Sr.
BERGENFIELD — Charles A. Lippmann Sr., 88, of Cresskill, formerly of Bergenfield, died April 21 at his home.
Born in Manhattan, he was a surveyor for Slattery Associates in New York before retiring in 1982.
Mr. Lippmann was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member, past commander and chaplain of Bergenfield Memorial Post 6467, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield, and a member of the Tenafly Rifle and Pistol Club.
He was predeceased by his wife Marion C. Lippmann; a grandson, Justin A. Schussler; a great-grandson, Austin; a sister, Ethel Lippmann; and a brother, Raymond Lippmann.
Surviving are his daughter, Dianne M. and her husband Hans Schussler; a son, Charles A. Jr. and his wife Mary Lippmann; grandchildren, Virginia and her husband Dan Riemann, Christine Monaghan, Marianne and her husband Donald Kaszner, Michelle and her husband John Calvello, Adam and Alex Schussler; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Marc, Melissa, Tommy, Aidan, Madison and Autumn.
There was a funeral liturgy at Church of the Ascension, New Milford, on Wednesday, April 30 followed by interment in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Arrangements were made by Riewerts Memorial Home Inc., Bergenfield.
