Culinary artists display skills at Chef Central

Jane Gorski of Dumont was among the SkillsUSA chapter members from the culinary arts program at Bergen Academies who showcased their skills and knowledge recently at a Chef Central demonstration in Paramus.
They amazed the audience of spectators with their creations of zabaglione and seasonal fruit, exquisite chocolate truffles and ornate chocolate roses.
Gorski, Kaitlyn O'Brien and State Treasurer Isabel Parilis, along with State President Maria Hera, demonstrated how to craft a chocolate rose, a skill these students mastered in their junior year at the Academies.
Chapter officers William Bauer, Julian Kosma, Alexandra Ponsiglione and Janine Vicente taught the audience how to make zabaglione, a simple dessert sauce, while chapter officers Demi Fong, Keira Langan and Christine Taylor rolled delicious truffles for the audience to enjoy.
In addition to explaining the processes and origins of each dish, students provided invaluable insight about their experiences with the Academy’s leadership and technical training organization, SkillsUSA.
They spoke of how their experiences with SkillsUSA aided their personal and professional development in order to gain support and recognition of technical schools.
The chapter also received a percentage of the Chef Central sales from that day, which greatly benefited the program.
The Bergen Academies chapter prides itself on its commitment to community service projects and its integration of technical training within the community.
