Applications available for Civic Involvement Award

HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS

The Northern Valley League of Women Voters is accepting applications for its Civic Involvement Award. It seeks to recognize a high school junior who demonstrates civic responsibility, involvement in a public policy issue, and activism.

Guidance departments of public and non-public high schools have been invited to nominate one high school junior to receive this award.

In addition, any high school junior who resides or attends school in one of the 26 towns that comprise the Northern Valley League is eligible to apply. These towns include Bergenfield, Dumont and New Milford.

Award information is available at www.lwvbergen.org.

The nominated junior is asked to submit a brief (200 word) essay describing either a school or community activity that demonstrates his or her commitment to civic responsibility, an involvement in a public policy issue or an example of activism.

The activity must have taken place during high school years and can include, but need not be limited to, student governance or service clubs.

A committee of League members will review applications, which must be submitted electronically, and be received by May 1. The winner, and possible runners up, will be announced by June 1.
