Emily Kronewitter
BERGENFIELD — Emily Kronewitter, 87, of Lakewood, formerly of Bergenfield, died March 22.
She was born in West New York.
Mrs. Kronewitter was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Bergenfield, St. John’s Golden Age Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Predeceased by her husband, Harry M. Kronewitter, she is survived by her sisters, Ann Little, Dorothy and her husband Louis Buesser, and Elizabeth and her husband Salvatore Celauro; and nieces and nephews, Robert Buesser, Karen Piper-Graichen, Steven Buesser, Deborah Buesser-Tucker, Raymond Buesser, James Celauro, Richard Celauro and Jane Connors.
There was a funeral liturgy at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield, on Thursday, March 27. Interment was in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

Kathryn J. Larmer
DUMNONT — Kathryn J. Larmer, 80, of Atlantic City, formerly of Dumont, died March 26.
She was born in New York, lived in Dumont and the last several years in Atlantic City.
Her brother, John M. Larmer, died in February. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Larmer of Dumont.
Burial was in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.

James J. Campbell Sr.
BERGENFIELD — James J. Campbell Sr., 83, of Bergenfield died March 21.
Born in Jersey City, he was a real estate agent for Dick O’Connor Realty, Bergenfield.
Mr. Campbell was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Bergenfield and a member of St. John’s Council 1345, Knights of Columbus, St. John’s Golden Age Club and St. John’s Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife, Norma L. Campbell (nee Capini); his children, James J. Jr., Edward and Peggy Davis; his sisters, Helen Olsen and Carolyn Maurer; and grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Edward, Erin, Daniele and Sean.
There was a funeral liturgy at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield, on Tuesday, March 25. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hackensack.

Roy Van Tassel
RINGWOOD — Roy Van Tassel, 87, of Ringwood, a retired Ringwood police chief, died March 23.
Born in Sterling, N.Y., he joined the Ringwood Police Department in 1954 and was promoted to chief in 1958. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1985.
Before that, he was an Electrician in the Ringwood iron mines and the soft rubber mill in Butler.
Mr. Van Tassel was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the New Jersey Police Chiefs Association, a member and past president of the Passaic County Police Chiefs Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Passaic County Police Radio Association and Ringwood PBA Local 309.
He was a member of American Legion Post 0246, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2906, Silentia Lodge 168, Butler, Boonton Lodge Adelphic Chapter 33 Royal Arch Masons and the NRA.
Mr. Van Tassel was husband of Eleanor Van Tassel (nee Brustlin); father of Roy Jr. and his wife Lorraine, Thomas F., Bruce and his wife Laura Van Tassel, and Cynthia and her husband Carl Carlson; and grandfather of Roy III, David V., Thomas F. Jr., Vincent A., Tracy E. and Bruce J. Van Tassel.
The Rev. Mark Ennis officiated at a funeral service on Friday, March 28 at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield. Interment was Midvale Cemetery, Wanaque.

Cheykota Curtis Sandis
DUMONT — Cheykota Curtis Sandis of Dumont died March 25.
Surviving are his mother and father, Denise (Poosikian) and Earoon Curtis Sandis; and his sister and brother.
A funeral service was held March 28 at the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont. Entombment was in Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.

John P. Costello
BERGENFIELD — John P. Costello, 63, of Bergenfield died March 22.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was a history teacher at Cardinal Spellman High School in New York, retiring in 2006.
Predeceased by his parents John M. and Grace M. Costello, he is survived by his brothers, James M. and his wife Susan, Robert M. and his wife Eileen, and Richard M. Costello; and nephews and nieces, Michael, Kristin, Jennifer, Kathleen and Kevin.
There was a funeral liturgy at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield, on Wednesday, March 26. Interment was in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, the Bronx, N.Y.

Frederick Harber
BERGENFIELD — Frederick Harber, 76, of Bergenfield died March 23 at home.
He was born in South Wales, Great Britain, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Before retiring, he was a bus driver/maintenance worker for the New York City Transit Authority.
Mr. Harber is survived by his wife, Carol A. Loughlin Harber; his son, Frederick P.; and daughter, Jennifer A.

Susan E. Dowling
DUMONT — Susan E. Dowling, 72, of Dumont, died March 7 in Dover.
She was born in New York and had lived in Dumont for the last 50 years.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont.
Mrs. Dowling was predeceased by her brother, William Foye, in 2002 and her sister, Catherine Curry, in 2002.
She is survived by her husband, William J.; her children and their spouses, Patricia and Joseph Turiello of Denville, Michael and Barbara Dowling of New Milford, William and Barbara Dowling of Bergenfield, and Lindas Dowling of Dumont; her brother, John Foye of Ramsey; her sisters, Agnes Foye of Leesburg, Fla., and Anne Taxter of Dumont; and eight grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Kristin Turiello, and Brian, James, Lauren, Caitlyn and Katie Dowling.
A funeral Mass was offered March 10 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont, with burial in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.

Doris T. Nashmy
DUMONT — Doris T. Nashmy (nee Bazaz), 81, of Dumont died Monday, March 24 at her daughter’s home in Erie, Pa.
She was born July 2, 1926 in North Bergen, the daughter of the late Frieda and Roscoe Bazaz. She worked in the family business, The Bergen Valet, for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Nashmy was active in the Ladies Aid Society at the Assyrian Apostolic Church in Paramus and enjoyed ceramics, bowling and crafting. She had many "bingo friends" with whom she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City.
She went to Erie, Pa. on Friday, March 21 to visit her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nashmy was predeceased in death by her husband, John; two brothers, Albert and George Bazaz; and sister-in-law, Ruth Bazaz.
Surviving are her daughter, Janine Petersen; son-in-law, David; two grandchildren, Scott and Katie of Erie, Pa.; granddaughter, Allison Fullerton and her husband Kirk of Delran; nieces and nephews, Richard Nashmy and his wife Alexandra, Gladys and John Allison, Jane and Bruce Bazaz, Janet and George Bazaz; her godson, George Bazaz Jr.; John Nashmy Jr.; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren..
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29 at the Assyrian Apostolic Church of the Virgin Mary in Paramus. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 915 State St., Erie PA 16507.

Elsa J. Tonissen Meyer
DUMONT — Elsa J. Tonissen Meyer, 96, of Whiting, formerly of Dumont, died March 20 at home.
She was born in New York, where she lived for many years before moving to Whiting.
She was a past matron of Tilden Chapter 59, Order of the Eastern Star; a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Fire Company 2; and a member of the Altar Guild and Redeemer Church Women.
Predeceased by her husband, Carl M. Meyer, in 1996, she is survived by her daughter, Elaine Earle, and her son, Carl Meyer, both of Whiting; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and her dear friend, Rose Wirt.
The Rev. James H. McKinley officiated at a service on March 25 at the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont. Burial was in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
