FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS — The Borough of New Milford will host fireworks behind the borough hall at sundown on Friday, the Fourth of July. The rain date is July 6.
There will also be music to celebrate the nation’s 232nd birthday and a "Great Cookie Contest" at 7 p.m. to see who baked the best All-American cookie. Bakers should submit at least six cookies — for the judges.

COMMUNITY AWARDS — St Joseph Council, 3814, Knights of Columbus, will be host its annual Community Awards Night on Friday, June 27.
The Knights will honor civil servants from Oradell and New Milford, including police and fire departments.
The Knights of Columbus Patriot Award will be presented to Douglas Baker Jr. of New Milford and who is currently serving in Iraq. His family will be on hand to accept the award .
BLOOD DRIVE — St. Joseph R.C. Church, in cooperation with Community Blood Services, will host a blood drive 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13 in the church parking lot, 305 Elm St.
Any healthy individual, ages 17 through 75, and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating, and must bring identification showing signature.
All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation.
SUMMER SCHEDULE — New Milford Borough Hall offices will adopt a summer schedule from June 30 through Aug. 29.
Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Regular office hours are being extended Monday through Thursday to adjust for the 1 p.m. closing on Friday.
PASTA DINNER — St. Joseph Council 3814, Knights of Columbus, will host its third annual pasta buffet-style dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 26 in the council hall, 199 River Road. The menu will include ziti, meatballs, salad, soda, coffee, tea, dessert and a cash bar.

DEMOCRATIC CLUB MEETING — The New Milford Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, in the New Milford Senior Center on River Road. Refreshments will be served. All Democrats are welcome.

DPW UPDATES — The New Milford Department of Public Works has issued the following reminders:
n Twice-a-week garbage pickup has begun on Tuesdays and Fridays in Sections I and II, as per the calendar for June, July and August.
n There will be a household hazardous waste collection 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29, rain or shine, at Bergen Community College, Paramus. For more information, a flier may be picked up at the DPW/recycling center office.
n Because of the holiday, garbage will be picked up Thursday, July 3, in Sections I and II, as per the borough calendar.
n The DWP/recycling center will be closed Friday, July 4.
SUMMERFEST 2008 — Ascension Church will celebrate its 55th anniversary on Sunday, June 29, marking its Founders Day with Summerfest 2008.
The church, established by Msgr. Francis A. Fox, would like to honor the founding families of the parish and is asking them to come forward. Those families or people who know some are asked to call the rectory at 201-836-8961.
HOLIDAY CLOSING — The senior transportation and rent leveling offices will be closed Friday, July 4.
For information or to schedule and appointment for the day after a holiday, residents must call at least one day before the holiday. Appointments for the day after a holiday cannot be made by leaving a telephone message when the borough hall is closed.
WOMAN’S CLUB MEMBERSHIP — The New Milford Woman’s Club invites women throughout the area to attend our meetings. The club meets once a month on the third Wednesday of each month at St. Matthew’s Church on Center Street in New Milford.

BOARD OF HEALTH — The New Milford Board of Health has announced a time change for board meetings. Meetings will start at 4:15 p.m. and will be held on the first Wednesday of the month in the Board of Health Department at the borough hall, 930 River Road.
ROTARY CLUB MEETINGS — The Rotary Club of River Edge, Oradell and New Milford welcomes guests and new members at its weekly lunch meetings at 12:15 p.m. Tuesdays at Lieto Italia, 203 Main St., New Milford, just east of River Road.
