Joan E. Balestier
BERGENFIELD — Joan E. Balestier (nee Miller), 77, of Bergenfield died Feb. 25 at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck.
She was born in Teaneck.
Mrs. Balestier was predeceased by her husband, Jerry Balestier; a brother, Salvatore Corbisiero; and a niece, Laura Nebbia. Surviving are her daughter, Grace Balestier; sons, Steven J. and his wife Claudia Balestier, and Jerry Balestier; a sister, Grace Marie and her husband Joseph Nebbia; a sister-in-law, Mary Corbisiero; grandchildren, Joanna, Matthew and Lauren; and nieces, Janet Corbisiero and Gail Nebbia.
There was a funeral service at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, on Thursday, Feb. 28 followed by interment in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

James P. Colon
BERGENFIELD — James P. Colon, 38, of Ringwood, formerly of Bergenfield, died Feb. 22 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York.
Born in Teaneck, he was a police officer for the Englewood Cliffs Police Department for 12 years. He was a member of PBA Local 45 and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Mr. Colon graduated from Bergenfield High School in 1987 and SUNY Cobleskill, N.Y., in 1991.
He was redeceased by a brother, William Colon.
Surviving are his wife, Adrienne Colon (nee Iurato); a son, Zachary James Colon; sisters, Cathleen Zisa, Lisa Dacey and Debra Stallone; mother-in-law, Deirdre Yates; father-in-law, Russell Iurato; brothers-in-law, John Iurato, Timothy Dacey, Vito Stallone and Robert Zisa; sister-in-law, Diana Colon; five nieces and five nephews.
There was a funeral Liturgy at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield, on Tuesday, Feb. 26 followed by interment in Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.
Arrangements were made by Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield.

Jean Kolb
BERGENFIELD — Jean Kolb (nee Fredrickson), 80, of Bergenfield died Feb. 20 at the Chateau at Rochelle Park.
Born in Providence, R.I., she was a switchboard operator for New York Telephone Co. in New York.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Tenafly; Contemporary Women’s Club, Bergenfield; Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 290, New Milford; and VASA, Order of America, New Milford.
Mrs. Kolb achieved a special goal in her life by graduating from Bergen Community College with an associate’s degree in liberal arts at the age of 72.
Surviving are her husband, Edmund Kolb; cousin, Marjorie Moses; nephew, Neil Moses and his wife Tami; great-niece, Heather; great-nephew, Christopher; and step-cousins, Trudy Koop and Dorothy Whole.
There was a funeral service at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, on Saturday, Feb. 23 with the Rev. Thomas Donahue officiating. It was followed by a private cremation.

Emily V. Burns
DUMONT — Emily V. Burns (nee Sadler) of Dumont, formerly of Fort Lee, died Feb. 26.
She retired in 1985 from Simon and Schuster of Old Tappan after working 20 years as a secretary.
Predeceased by her husband, Anthony, in 1967, she is survived by her sister, Irene and her husband Richard Nagel; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was offered Friday, Feb. 28 at St. Therese R.C. Church, Cresskill.
Arrangements were made by the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Englewood Hospital Coe Radiation Oncology Department.

William J. Daly
NEW MILFORD — William J. Daly, 83, of New Milford died Feb. 23.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Daly lived in River Vale before moving to New Milford in 1970.
A graduate of Fordham University, he worked for 25 years for Kanematsu-Gosho as liaison to Minolta. He later became a consultant, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Daly was an advocate for tenants and a member of the executive committee of the New Milford Tenants Organization. He also served for decades on the borough’s Rent Leveling Board and was instrumental in crafting the local rent control law.
He became chairman of the Bergen County Housing Coalition.
He won a borough council seat in 1982 and was made council president at the 1985 reorganization meeting
Mr. Daly served in the Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
He is survived by his sons, Michael of Palatka, Fla., and Christopher of Boulder Creek, Calif.; a daughter, Jeanne Daly of Knoxville, Tenn.; a grandson; and his former wife, Gloria Ball Daly of Knoxville.
A funeral Mass was offered Saturday, March 2, at Church of the Ascension, New Milford.
Arrangements were made by Boulevard Funeral Home, New Milford.

John M. ‘Jack’ Larmer
DUMONT — John M. "Jack" Larmer, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 23.
He was a lifetime resident of Dumont and graduate of Seton Hall University.
He was a licensed naturopath in New Hampshire, helping others in the field of alternative medicine.
Mr. Larmer is survived by Joan, his wife of 53 years; children, Gary M., Blane E., Todd A., and Tracy A; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 27 at The Church of the Assumption in Emerson. Interment followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested Mass cards.

Walter J. Morris
DUMONT — Walter J. Morris, 91, of Dumont, died Feb. 28.
He was born in New York and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Morris was a typesetter for the (New York) Daily News, retiring in 1985.
Predeceased by his wife, Clara Morris (nee Cayaves), he is survived by his children, Georgia Tsocanos and John G. Morris; and grandchildren, Charles Tsocanos, and Christopher and Matthew Morris.
There was a funeral liturgy at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont, on Monday, March 3. Interment was in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
Arrangements were made by Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield.

Rita M. O’Gara
BERGENFIELD — Rita M. O’Gara, 96, of Bergenfield, formerly of Fair Lawn, died Feb. 27 at her home.
Mrs. O’Gara spent much time teaching piano lessons, baking, crocheting or gardening. She volunteered for many years with the Opportunity Center at Fair Lawn and worked with the Visiting Homemaker Service of Bergen County.
She was a long-time parishioner and a member of the AMPS Senior Club at St. Catharine R.C. Church, Glen Rock; a charter member of the St. Ann’s Columbiettes; and a member of the Fair Lawn Senior Citizens’ Wednesday Club.
Mrs. O’Gara was predeceased by her husband, Walter, who died on the same date in 1977. She is survived by her children, Dorothy Kelly, George O’Gara and Edna Pfannen; her brother, Wilfred Molinari; and sister, Isabel Alessi.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Ken Sussman, Kathleen Blackfan, Laurie Huryk, Susan Hall, Kevin O’Gara, Brad Kelly, Karen O’Gara Helm and Geoffrey Kelly; and 22 great-grandchildren.
There was a funeral liturgy at St. Catharine R.C. Church, Glen Rock, on Saturday, March 1. Interment was in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
Arrangements were made by Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield.

Vito V. Dileo
DUMONT — Vito V. Dileo, 87, of Dumont, died Feb. 28 at home.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., lived in New York City and the last 35 years in Dumont.
Before retiring 20 years ago, Mr. Dileo he was a construction worker for Mason Tenders in Manhattan.
He was a member of St. John’s Council 1345, Knights of Columbus, Bergenfield/Dumont, which held a service on Feb. 29. He also belonged to the Dumont Senior Citizens.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Bello Dileo; his sister, Betty Defalco of Fort Meyers, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was March 1 at the Frech Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave, Dumont, with private cremation.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer St., Hackensack NJ 07601.
