For more than 40 years the Speedy Car Wash at 192 South Washington Ave. in Bergenfield has offered its customers service in all things pertaining to a clean vehicle.
The car wash has been family owned and operated since 1966 when Mel Beucler Senior and Junior opened it.
Devin Beucler has owned and run the operation since October 2004, after purchasing the business from his father.
"I worked here all through high school and college," Devin said during a recent visit to the facility.
After buying the car wash, Devin said that he closed the business for two weeks for equipment upgrades.
Then, in September of 2005, Devin opened the Detail Center located on the same premises.
"I expanded to offer detailing, and this has really helped to grow my business within the last three years," he said.
Beucler said he does all of the detailing work for the Bergenfield Police Department’s cars.
Eight people work at the car wash and detail center ; they including Robert Walsh, a 30-year employee.
The price to have a car washed at Speedy Car Wash is $6.50.
"I charge the same price no matter how big your car is," he said.
"Whether it’s a limousine or a small Honda, the price is the same."
In a recent reader’s poll in The Record, the Speedy Car Wash was rated as one of the top five such places in the area.
Beucler said he is proud to be a Bergenfield resident. "My father grew up here on Murray Hill Terrace; I feel like Bergenfield is my home town."
He sponsors several organizations, including the Bergenfield Police Athletic League baseball and basketball teams and the Bergenfield Educational Foundation.
"You need to give back to the community," he said.
The Speedy Car Wash is open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sundays 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Detail Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their telephone number is 201-387-9615.
